Lars Preisser`s work often responds to the conditions in a post-industrial age. Working across drawing, weaving, and film, he questions normative structures in industry and society and invents counter-realities. His projects often emerge from long-term artistic research and transfer precise observations of social and technological developments into a surreal, intricate visual language. His upbringing, shaped by the contrast between a working-class neighbourhood in Berlin during the 1990s and luxurious holiday settings with his extended family from the industrial elite, has shaped his artistic and moral stance. His practice is rooted in his ambivalent experiences and reflected in works addressing various themes such as military industry, gentrification, climate change, and postcolonial histories.
Lars Preisser (*1984 in Lindau (DE), grew up in Berlin (DE) and later moved to Ōtepoti (Dunedin), Aotearoa (NZ) to study art. He holds a bachelor’s degree in textile art from Otago Polytechnic School Of Art, Aotearoa (NZ) and a diplom (master’s equivalent) in media art/ expanded cinema from the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (DE). He received various grants and prizes for his work and exhibited in institutions internationally such as Blue Oyster Gallery, Ōtepoti (Dunedin NZ), Objectspace, Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, NZ) , Bauhaus Dessau (DE), nGbK Berlin (DE), Contextile Biennial (PT).
