Bauhaus Twist
Ōtepoti, Aotearoa (Dunedin, NZ) 2008
Screenprint on cotton
140cm x 120cm
An old photo of a Bauhaus student’s studio apartment becomes a repeat pattern for a screenprint on fabric.
The imprint that the Bauhaus left on the present and future of architecture is fascinating
and at the same time it created an ideological dogma of how modern architecture had to be.
By turning the abstract image of a Bauhaus studio around it becomes an abstract decorative pattern
that might resemble a swastika or a labyrinth or something else.
Is or can the Bauhaus idea be a twisted one?
